Nashville, TN, United States (AHN) – The Predators selected Ryan Parent with the 18th overall pick in the 2005 NHL draft, and five years and a trade later, the defenseman will finally wear the Nashville jersey.

Parent, who has never played for the Predators, signed a two-year, $1.85 million contract Monday.

The Predators reacquired him in June when the Flyers traded him back to Nashville for fellow defenseman Dan Hamhuis.

Parent was originally traded to the Philadelphia Flyers in a four-player deal that brought Peter Forsberg to Nashville on Feb. 5, 2007.

Two months later, Parent, who has a goal and six assists in 102 NHL games, made his debut. It was the lone game Parent played in the NHL that year.

Over the past two years, Parent, who will be paid $850,000 this year and $1 million in 2011-12, developed into a defensive specialist.

He also played in 17 of the Flyers’ 19 Stanley Cup playoff games and picked up a playoff goal as Philadelphia won the Eastern Conference title before losing to the Chicago Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup Final.
